Tobacco Advocacy Leader
2015 - 2018
Led statewide advocacy campaigns with the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii Youth Council, resulting in multiple pieces of legislation restricting flavored tobacco sales and youth access to tobacco products. Testified before the Hawaii State Legislature on multiple occasions. Coordinated youth advocacy events and recruited peer advocates. Helped pass law prohibiting smoking in cars with children throughout Oahu. Worked to strengthen Hawaii's statewide law prohibiting tobacco sales to anyone under 21. Named 2018 National Youth Advocate of the Year by Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids. Recognized with 2017 Alaka'i Outstanding Advocate of the Year award from Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii. Personal motivation stemmed from losing grandmother to lung disease caused by secondhand smoke exposure.
