Privacy & Cookies

This is a personal portfolio site. I am not running a business off your data, there are no ads, and I do not sell or share anything about you. The short version: I use privacy-respecting analytics to count visits so I know which projects people actually read. That is essentially the whole story, but here are the details.

What I collect

The only data collection on this site is Google Analytics 4, which gives me aggregate, anonymous stats: how many people visited, which pages were popular, rough country or city, the type of device and browser, and where visitors came from (for example a search engine or a link someone shared).

I see trends and totals, never individual identities. I cannot see who you are, your name, or your email from analytics.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets a small first-party cookie (named _ga) to tell whether you are a new or returning visitor and to avoid double-counting the same person. It expires on its own and is not used for advertising.

That is the only cookie this site itself sets. If you watch an embedded video (for example a YouTube talk) or follow a link to my newsletter, those third parties may set their own cookies once you interact with them.

What I do NOT do

• No advertising, ad networks, or retargeting pixels.
• No selling, renting, or trading your data. Ever.
• No cross-site tracking or building a profile of you.
• No collecting your email, name, or personal info just from browsing.

Your choices

You are in control:

• Install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on to block analytics everywhere.
• Block or clear cookies in your browser settings, or use a private window.
• Use a browser or extension that blocks trackers. This site works perfectly fine with analytics blocked.
• Email me to ask what data exists or to request it be removed (see below).

Third parties

A few services help run this site. Each has its own privacy policy:

• Google Analytics for visit stats. See Google's privacy policy.
• Cloudflare Pages hosts the site and may log basic request data for security and performance.
• My newsletter provider handles subscriptions only if you choose to sign up. Browsing this site never adds you to anything.
• Embedded media such as a YouTube video on a talk page may load content from that provider when you play it.

Changes to this notice

If I ever change how this site handles data, I will update this page and the date at the top. Given that it is a personal site with minimal data, big changes are unlikely.
